LASH LIFT EYELASH PERMING
The only thing more annoying than applying mascara every day is having to take it off every night (can I get an amen?!). In the past, having permanently curled, lifted lashes from the moment you wake up was virtually impossible, but thanks to the rise of lash lifts and eyelash perms, falsie-level lashes are slowly becoming the norm.

The goal of a lash lift and a lash perm is essentially the same: to curl and lift the base of your natural lashes using a chemical-based process. Although the terms are used interchangeably, technically they’re two different things. In general, Buhler says to think of a lash lift as a newer version of a lash perm that uses better techniques and formulas. The chemicals used and the results achieved can vary depending on the brand and the place you’re getting it done, so do your research and chat with the salon ahead of your appointment.
Do eyelash perms damage your eyelashes?
According to Dr. Haberman, using chemicals on the eyelashes themselves can cause the lashes to change in texture and even fall out. “If the solution is left on for too long, it can damage the lashes,” says Dr. Haberman, “so you want only want an eyelash perm from someone who is attentive, knowledgeable, and experienced.”
With that said, your lashes naturally fall out on their own, so even with a lash lift done professionally, you’ll notice them shedding and growing in how you normally would. “A lash lift will last the growth cycle of each of the natural lashes that were present at the time of the initial procedure,” Buhler explains. “As mature lashes fall out, and new lashes grow in, you’ll notice the effect of the lash lift begin to lessen.”
Can I put mascara on an eyelash perm?
Eventually, yes, but for the first 24 hours, applying mascara to your permed lashes is a definite no-no. Buhler says not only do you need to avoid wearing makeup (including mascara) that first day, but also avoid rubbing your lashes or sleeping with your face smashed into your pillow that night (since your lashes are still vulnerable). Also, note that you can’t get your lash perm wet for at least 24 hours, so you also need to stay away from things like saunas, swimming, excessive sweating, and beauty treatments or facials performed around the eye area.
